RAISING READING THROUGH TECHNOLOGY

Students begin to internalize their learning struggles at a very young age. Thus, it is imperative that we build a sense of curiosity and engagement toward learning that can withstand these struggles early on. One way I’ve been able to do this is by introducing technology into classrooms through the use FarFaria. This app uses student choice in high-interest books at students’ instructional levels to engage beginning readers.

I introduced this app to the classrooms by visiting each room in 1st-3rd grade to have a read-along. Besides being an incredible joy, the visit enabled me to model using the app to teachers and to show students how to select their own story to read. I supported this effort with e-mails home extolling the benefits of the app. The journey for continual learning begins early and involves everyone.
