This PD presentation was created to develop teachers’ growth in improving instructional practices at Mastery Charter. It began by asking the relevant questions about why graduating students were not succeeding in college. The results informed the decision to refocus instruction on student driven project-based learning and away from text-driven content.

The proposal is dependent on teachers making the transition to a new lesson plan format. This is accomplished by creating shared ownership and increasing the capacity of others to carry out initiatives. The PD series was designed with teacher input and localized to departments in order that they may guide their development.

The presentation shown included an example science lesson using this new instructional delivery, thus giving teachers a tangible representation of what they are being asked to do and creating an exciting presentation in the process.
